About Gyu-Kaku Japanese Bbq

Gyu-Kaku Japanese Bbq is one of those places in San Diego that instantly feels lively the moment you walk through the door. Located at 9844 Hibert St #1, San Diego, CA 92131, this Japanese restaurant brings a fun and interactive dining experience that works well for casual dinners, group hangouts, and even late-night cravings. What makes Gyu-Kaku Japanese Bbq stand out is the tabletop grilling setup, where guests can cook premium meats, vegetables, and small plates right at the table. The atmosphere feels energetic without being overwhelming, and the smell of sizzling barbecue drifting through the dining room only adds to the experience.

The menu has a little bit of everything, which makes it easy for different tastes to come together. Meat lovers usually gravitate toward the all-you-can-eat options and flavorful comfort food selections, while others enjoy lighter choices and healthy options mixed throughout the menu. There are also vegetarian-friendly dishes that keep the experience inclusive without feeling like an afterthought. Small plates make sharing simple, so the table naturally turns into a rotating spread of grilled bites, rice dishes, and appetizers.

Another thing people enjoy about Gyu-Kaku Japanese Bbq is the drink selection. From cocktails and beer to wine and hard liquor, the beverage menu pairs naturally with the smoky barbecue flavors. Happy hour drinks and happy hour food specials also give the restaurant a social vibe that feels perfect after work or during weekend evenings. The relaxed setup encourages people to stay awhile, grill at their own pace, and enjoy conversation between rounds of food.

Service options are flexible too, which makes the restaurant convenient for different situations. Guests can choose dine-in for the full Japanese BBQ experience, but takeout, delivery, and no-contact delivery are available for nights when staying home sounds better. Onsite services help keep the grilling process smooth, especially for first-time visitors who may not be familiar with Japanese barbecue dining. The mix of bold flavors, interactive cooking, and upbeat atmosphere gives Gyu-Kaku Japanese Bbq a style that feels both modern and welcoming.

We had always been having a good lunch special here almost every two to three weeks. They are recently have a great deal for Restaurant Wee. You got an appetizer + two meats+1 veg+ 1 dessert, with white nice, salad and miso soup for just $25. Waiting time is about 35 minutes. They have plenty of seatings when we entered. So we guess the waiting was because they were short of staffs. Overall food taste great as always.

Got the lunch set, which was a very reasonable price. Grill the meat at your own pace so it's nice and hot when you add it to your rice bowl. Also came with miso soup and a generous amount of salad. Meat tastes great and the dipping sauces available are nice. The service was a little slow during Friday afternoon.

Great food and great service. Located in a strip mall with lots of food options and they are one of the best. Food here is great. We tried the Ultimate option and every single food item was delicious. It is Japanese BBQ so the food are all delicately prepared. Loved the Toro beef. Highly recommended. Come early and come hungry. It gets busy during lunch and dinner time and especially on weekends.

Absolutely amazing. I have been coming to this restaurant consistently for over 10 years now. This is my favorite japanese bbq place. I love the spicy jalapeno miso marinade they have for their meats and is it unparalleled. The cuts of meat are fairly decent quality. The toro beef is by far my favorite cut of beef. The appetizers and side dishes are also quite plentiful for non bbq lovers as well. The food can be fairly oily but thats about par for the course at a bbq place. The parking can be fairly hit or miss at times but usually it's fine. The wait times however can be quite bad. They no longer take reservations online and only through phone if you have a large party. For a normal small group you have to walk in and expect to wait at least 20-30minutes depending on what time you come.

This is a diamond in the rough! People were courteous and polite; and the food was phenomenal! We had 10 of the beef choices and two pork (one marinated pork there other porky belly), the two marinated, beef and pork, were the most tender of all the cuts of meet l meat to include the filet minion which wasn't as tender as you'd like in a filet. Nevertheless, you cook the meat yourself on this small gas grill in the center of your table, similar to a Korean bbq restaurant. As far as sides we had asparagus, garlic spinach and broccoli and cheese. Surprisingly, all these vegitable came out raw in tin foil. We are expected to cook them on the grill. So, we opened them up poured some of the sweet soy sauce in them and cooked them one at a time. They turned out delicious. Asparagus is my wife favorite, I, however, do not liked it; but amazingly enough I took a bite and it was delicious. I actually ate several pieces. She said the same with my spinach. The appetizers were a hit! I genuinely love fried dumplings, theirs after fantastic! It would've been easy to eat a couple orders all by myself. I also ordered fried calamari which was good, slightly overdone; but it was their dipping sauces that shined here, fabulous ! We're not drinkers or wine connoisseurs, lol, but we like some of the sweeter wines that don't have a strong alcohol taste...I say all of that to say, their plum wine was sweet and delightful. I apologize for not knowing the notes of wine. \○/ For dessert I had they've rice dough covered ice cream (forget the name) I enjoyed the strawberry flavored one but didn't the green tea flavored one. I also found the flour on the outside of it a little off putting. My wife had the chocolate lava cake and ice cream. She loved it. Touch and moist is how she described it to me. Atmosphere was two stars. The decor, well there really isn't a decor. The walls all need painted and the plane just needs a professional to come in the and spruce it up with updated appropriate decor. The restroom have an awful, seriously awful small. That also needs immediate attention. Those are the reasons for the 2 stars. Overall, I'm saving it as a place I don't want to forget and so I can return when I'm back in this area. We seriously enjoyed our meal! Wonderful food and the people are great! A must of you enjoy delicious food and want to grill your own food. The cost is fairly steep. $54, $64, & $74 we choose the$74 so we wouldn't be limited from any of the options. Or bottle of wine was like $28. This is expensive; but not outrageous, it is comparable to other venues like it and in our opinion totally worth it!!!
